After acquiring all the coding know-how, a medical coder needs to brace up for for
CEU education. Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are a sure shot way to measure, record and report a person’s participation in continuing education activities. A coder can turn to American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC), which helps its members get the edge in their coding career by providing multiple opportunities to bag CEUs.
But the road towards acquiring CEUs might not be smooth sailing for a coding professional because sometimes problems like lack of availability and time may bog him down. Here we take a look at some hurdles that a coder might experience when he goes for CEUs:
• Firstly, he often works round-the-clock and has tight schedules to meet, which makes attending classes and workshops a tough ask.
• Secondly, the average coder might not be able to participate in seminars and workshops because of exorbitant price.
• Thirdly, if’s often witnessed that the seminars and workshops are held at far flung places, making it difficult for coders to participate.
• One more hurdle could be that some employers do not recognize the value of continuing education and don’t quite sponsor their staff when it comes to education meetings.
Even organizers, publishers and the like have a tough job on their hands as they are forced to meet a continuous flow of fresh CEU workshops,
CEU Seminars and programs, what with many coding professionals having to get CEUs for two or three credentials.
So go for CEUs, but before you do so, make yourself aware of the challenges that you may encounter while on course.
